Oceano Sand Dunes is The Best Spot for Family Photos

Where do I park:

Turn onto Pier Avenue from Highway 1 and pull into the Pismo State Beach-Oceano campground parking lot. The trailhead is on the east side of the Nature Center, by the lagoon on the east side. You have to park and walk a few miles to the dunes. FYI- I heard there are no dogs allow.

How long is the walk:

By feet, it took us about an hour to get to the dunes, but we did have young children with us and stopped a few times at the beach for photos. Needless to say, once you start walking you will see the dunes from a distance and you will know where/when to enter.

When is the best time to visit:

Any time is a good time, however, I highly recommended 3-4 hours before the sunset. There’s no shade at the dunes and if you bring kids too OMG you will be so exhausted from walking & the heat! Also, sunset at Pismo Beach is absolutely breath-taking and I will say it again… the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen in my life.

What should I wear:

Make sure you dress up for the Dunes! I linked some of my favorite dresses at the moment that is perfect for the beach and dunes. Have fun and tag us in your photos if you saw this post and went to the Dunes!

This looks like such a beautiful location for photos. That being said, I can totally see why you would be exhausted after a day there in the sun with the kids running around! Don’t you wish that there was a way of bottling their energy? I have often thought that when spending time with my nieces and nephews! Lol

I think it’s a great idea. Dunes are fresh and I quite frankly never saw family photo shoot in the dunes. I just hope there will no wurms there

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. But imagine if you added some great visuals or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this site could undeniably be one of the greatest in its niche. Wonderful blog!

Thank you so much for your advice! I normally have photos- sadly I forgot to bring my camera to the dunes and I did not have any photos besides my video. Thank you so much for your kind words and I will make sure to add more photos to make it pop! Thank you!!!!
